Alanna & Leo
At Lambeth Assembly Hall, we were delighted to host Alanna and Leo’s stylish city wedding, in the heart of Brixton, South London. Our Venues Officer, Lianne supported them in the lead up to their special day and their vision came to life as our historic hall transformed into a lively, colorful, and intimate space, perfect for their unique celebration. Every detail reflected the couple’s personalities and their commitment to celebrating both their Irish and South Asian heritages.
The day began just next door in our neighbouring Lambeth Town Hall, where the Love at Lambeth team supported Alanna and Leo with their heartfelt ceremony in the grand Council Chamber. Following the ceremony and while their guests were offered refreshments, the wedding photographer took some beautiful portraits of Alanna & Leo in the Courtyard of Lambeth Town Hall and in the local Brixton surroundings.
The practical benefits of our venue were a highlight for the couple, as they appreciated the option to host both their ceremony and reception in one location, providing a seamless transition from one part of the day to the next. The art deco style of the spaces at Lambeth Assembly Hall alongside their responsive team made the venue both visually appealing and easy to work with.
For the reception, Alanna and Leo transformed the Assembly Hall into a bright and beautiful haven, which created a warm and welcoming environment for their guests. The vibrant colours brought a modern aesthetic to the heritage venue and created some impressive photographs to be cherished long after the day was over.
Alanna and Leo treated their guests to an extraordinary vegan menu created by Cashew Catering. We were so impressed by the culinary creativity that brought their individual heritages to life. Guests enjoyed the flavours and textures on offer, proving that a plant-based menu could win over even the most dedicated meat-lovers. Our spacious hall provided the perfect backdrop for a dining experience that celebrated Alanna and Leo’s roots and values, making every guest feel connected to them as a couple.
Alanna and Leo chose our venue for its alignment with their values and its inclusive, welcoming atmosphere. As an openly LGBTQ+ friendly space, and being situated just across from the Black Cultural Archives, we were honored to be a venue that resonated with their priorities and helped celebrate their love in an environment that felt authentic and supportive.
Conveniently local, Lambeth Assembly Hall offered Alanna and Leo the comfort of getting ready at home and returning to their nearby flat after the festivities. Furthermore, knowing that their venue choice supported the local community made it all the more meaningful for them—a beautiful way to tie their day to a place they love.
Alanna and Leo’s wedding reception was an unforgettable evening, filled with music and cultural celebration. The festivities began with a lively Bhangra Ceilí, featuring the talented Céilí Max and dhol drummer Jo Kalsi, who brought together Irish and South Asian traditions with an energy that filled our hall. Guests were guided through traditional Irish dance steps, making it accessible and enjoyable even for those experiencing a céilí for the first time.
As the evening continued, the dance floor stayed alive with a DJ set from Video Blue. With a playlist inspired by Alanna and Leo's favorite songs, the music spanned soulful classics, vibrant Irish tunes, and hits from across the decades, creating a joyful and inclusive atmosphere that kept everyone on their feet. Our hall's spacious layout and acoustics allowed the celebration to carry on until the small hours, ensuring a perfect and memorable close to their special day.
